Get ready for an incredible two-day horseback riding journey! You’ll explore mountain trails, ascend to the 70-foot Firetower at Bald Knob, and enjoy a unique night of tent camping. Our campsite is in a complete “dead zone,” meaning no light pollution will spoil your view of the night sky. Spend 3-4 hours riding each day while connecting with your horse and enjoying the beautiful views. We provide one dinner, lunch and breakfast, keeping you well-fed for the experience. Please bring water and extra snacks to stay energized between meals.

Tips for Backcountry Horseback Riding
Several tips can help keep you and your fellow riders safe while protecting the Cheat Mountain environment, including:
- Listen to instructions. Before getting underway, our team reviews all the important details, including safety tips and horse steering. Pay close attention, and feel free to ask any questions.
- Wear comfortable clothes. Rapid weather changes can occur in this part of the Allegheny Mountains, so come prepared. We strongly recommend durable, comfortable attire, including closed-toe shoes. Opt for three layers — base, middle/insulating, and shell — to ensure you stay comfortable day and night.
- Don’t overpack. Be prepared, but bring only what’s necessary.
- Respect nature. Put all trash into a small garbage bag to dispose of when you return. Additionally, please give wild animals their space if you see them in their natural habitat, and never feed them.
- Get approval from your doctor. If you have an existing health condition, please get the okay from your physician before booking your reservation. Make sure to bring your medications for the trip.
